RRRReautiful Rurk

Turk was given a makeover by the girls tonight. They thought it would be funny to put Bryn's hat on him and tried putting on a tu-tu. He looks defeated, but he handled it. What else can he do living in a house with a bunch of rrrazy rrrirls. Poor Turk.

Zoo-Lander

Despite the extreme heat, today McKoy and I went to the Nashville Zoo with some friends from the ward. Here she is at an exhibit with Ty and Tay-Tay. She loved the zoo and was really excited when she saw more than one of the same animal. She said "anodder one, anodder one." It was enjoyable to see her interacting with the monkeys--since she is one herself!

Book Review: The Seamstress

The Seamstress is a memoir of a Holocaust survivor. The book begins with Seren Tuvel's life before the war, living with her family in Romania. She wins a scholarship in Bucharest but decides to quit school rather than listening to the priests teach the students about the evils of Jews. She instead becomes a seamstress and learns how to make a living on her own. The book continues with her story throughout the horrors of the prison camps and the loss of the majority of her family and friends.

There was a great discussion at Book Club about Seren's wonderful characteristics that helped her have the courage to survive. She was intelligent, observant, strong-willed, loving, and most importantly, in my opinion, she had a sense of humor. All of these attributes helped her get through the most unthinkable experiences she endured throughout the Holocaust and for the rest of her life after the liberation. She truly is inspiring and I would like to chat with her someday. (This picture is of shaved women selected for forced labor before they were starved. This image represents the women they were--obedient and strong).

Government At It's Finest

Bryn was nominated and elected to her Student Council today. Who knew there was a little politician in there? Go Bryn!

Trip

When Jared and Scotlyn were on their way home from Tulsa, OK they got a flat tire about 30 miles east of Little Rock, AR. When Jared was changing the tire, the 2 lugnuts and 2 bolts broke off. He had to turn around and go back to Little Rock which took him over an hour since he had to drive so slow. Since it was about 5:15 on a Sunday there were no places open for him to take the car. So, he and Scotlyn ended up getting a motel so that they could get it fixed Monday morning. They didn't get home until 7 p.m. last night. I am so happy to have them home! I missed them so much! It was too quiet without my gabby Scotlyn. She's a trip!

No Fair Weather Here

Okay, so I got a little cocky in predicting that BYU would beat Tulsa. It was a good game, although they lost. However, I am not a fair-weather fan and I still support our stalwart men and true. I will continue to wear the white and blue!

For Alma Mater's Sons and Daughters

Early this morning Jared and Scotty left for Oklahoma to see BYU beat Tulsa. They were graciously invited to stay with our friends, Lee & Tricia. This picture was taken in January at Nashville's Music City Bowl. Scotlyn is very much a football fan and she loves to go to sporting events. Tonight Bryn is going to High School Musical on Ice so I stayed here with her and McKoy. But I'll still be cheering for my Cougars! There's a guy in my ward that went to see the first home game in Provo and on his flight he memorized the BYU fight song. Here it is in case you feel like singing along after they make their many touchdowns:

Rise, all loyal Cougars and hurl your challenge to the foe.
We will fight, day or night, rain or snow.
Loyal, strong, and true wear the white and blue.
While we sing, get set to spring come on, Cougars, it's up to you. Oh!
CHORUS:
Rise and shout, the Cougars are out along the trail to fame and glory.
Rise and shout, our cheers will ring out as you unfold your vict'ry story.
On you go to vanquish the foe for Alma Mater's sons and daughters.
As we join in song in praise of you our faith is strong.
We'll raise our colors high in the blue and cheer our Cougars of BYU.
Rah, rah, rah-rah-rah, gooooooo COUGARS!!!

Daddy's Girls

Even though Jared calls us (wife and 3 daughters) his "Estrogen Gang", it seems our home may not be lacking in the testosterone department. With his influence and example we may as well have a bunch of little dudes running around here. Bryn is absolutely infatuated with the Poopie List. She looks at it once a day and can barely breathe from laughing so hard by the end. She and Scotty have tooting wars and every once in a while, Coco steps in and knocks them all out. Not only are they obsessed with all things tooting and burping and the like, but they also jump off the furniture and kick soccer balls in the house. I know, not so becoming of little southern belles. Jared does not need a boy. I think 3 little spunky girls are all this daddy needs.

Poser

McKoy likes to air her dirty laundry. We've had record-breaking heat here in TN and she refuses to keep clothes on even in our freezing air-conditioned house. I end up chasing her with clothes around the house while she giggles to get away from me. She's my McKoko-Loco!

Broken Heart

Scotlyn got in trouble this weekend and decided to draw pictures of her misfortune and how mean daddy is. She interpreted them for me: The first shows Jared and his "mean face" pointing his finger toward the "door", with a bubble over his head with "words" of "Go to your room" along with an "arrow" pointing to him to show the culprit of her sadness. The thing that looks like a sun is actually the ceiling fan in the bonus room. She also tried to make the roof line of the bonus room with her "V". The BYU game is on the T.V. "and, mommy, you can even see the football." I am the one on the computer chair turned ever-so-slightly to the left so that I can see what is going on. The two girls are Scotlyn and McKoy playing. Scotlyn is crying in the picture. Which brings us to the finale of the second picture of Scotlyn's heart. In her words, "Daddy break-did" my heart." Jared and I busted a gut after she explained these and left the room.
